Features

Welcome to 3829 21st Street, a stunning view residence that offers grand scale and a flexible layout rarely found in San Francisco.

Substantially rebuilt in 2003, this exquisite home features 5 bedrooms, a family room, 4.5 baths and 3 patios spread over 4 levels with oversized rooms, extra-tall windows, soaring ceilings, fine attention to detail and great indoor-outdoor flow.

The living room is an entertainer’s dream, lined with display cases and featuring custom millwork. The wood-burning fireplace is surrounded by a particularly large and imposing mantel and flanked on both sides by built-in bookshelves. Wall-mounted speakers and built-in TV (included) provide for a great movie-watching experience.

The kitchen has abundant counter space, cabinets with glass-fronted doors, premium appliances including a 6-burner Viking stove, bar-seating and a primary sink with second utility sink nearby. There is a large pantry for even more storage.

The south-facing dining room is flooded with light on 3 sides.

Upstairs are 3 bedrooms including a luxurious primary with massive walk-in closet and w/south-facing patio. One of the bedrooms has a large custom-built window seat where you can curl up with a book and admire the views across Upper Market’s distinctive hills and valleys. Up one more level you will find a 4th bedroom, also with a walk-in closet large enough for alternative use as a study or nursery. At the front of the house this level includes a dramatic family room with peaked ceilings and 9 skylights. There is an especially large skylight over the stairs which illuminates the entire stairwell with natural light.

The patio on this upper level offers breathtaking views stretching from Twin Peaks to Pacific Heights, downtown, Marin Headlands, Mount Tam and beyond. The rear bedroom gets great sunshine from both its windows and skylights and has beautiful south-facing views stretching to the Southern Hills.

Downstairs is a large office (or 5th BR) with its own ensuite bathroom. This room connects directly to the street via a hallway which is convenient for guests. A 3-car garage with EV hookup and extensive workbench and storage cabinetry completes this level. The yard can be accessed from the street without needing to pass through the garage - perfect for transportation of gardening supplies.

A dedicated laundry room features side-by-side washer-dryer and a sink and counter for folding clothes.

The flat, landscaped yard features a large wooden patio that is just a few steps down from the dining room, a winding decomposed granite pathway encircling a pleasant grassy lawn and a 2nd charming seating area beneath a romantic arbor.

Distinctive details in this home include a dramatic entryway featuring refinished Brazilian hardwood floors with decorative inlay, elaborate crown molding and beveled trim in many of the public rooms, French doors to all of the patios, recessed lights in every room, deep walk-in closets with built-in shelving, extra-tall windows with transom above to admit more light, custom shades and drapes, and built-in ceiling-and-wall-mounted speakers.

Enviably located on one of the city’s most beautiful and historical blocks, and surrounded by exceptionally majestic homes, this residence offers a unique combination of bold architecture, tailored workmanship, and a practical floorplan that is flexible enough to meet your needs for many years to come.

Neighborhood

3829 21st Street is located on one of Eureka Valley's most coveted blocks. This quintessential San Francisco street is distinguished by its large and majestic homes, many of which date to the late Ninetheenth Century, when the city's founding elites first developed the neighborhood. Like many other parts of the neighborhood, the street is lined with trees and bursting with shrubs, making it an especially lovely area to walk about.

3829 21st Street was substantially rebuilt in 2003 with a modern facade that nonetheless reflects and mirrors some of the design elements that you see in the older homes nearby while offering a contemporary floorplan ideal for the modern buyer.

21st Street straddles two fantastic neighborhoods. One one side is the Castro, technically known as Eureka Valley, and on the other side is Noe Valley. Both neighborhoods are just a short walk away along Castro Street, a transportation corridor which bisects the entire city.

The heart of the Castro District sits just a few blocks down the hill, bustling with stores and restaurants, and anchored by the legendary Castro Theater. The massive rainbow flag, located at the corner of Castro and Market Street, can be seen from miles away and is a proud symbol of this neighborhood's storied history.

Noe Valley is just a few blocks to the South, and is anchored by 24th Street, a dynamic retail hub, bustling with numerous boutiques, stores and cafes.

Both the Castro and Noe Valley offer weekly Farmers Markets, dog parks, public libraries and a wealth of casual hangout and fine dining options that cater to every taste. In addition to having well-regarded schools and playgrounds, the Castro offers bars and clubs and a bustling nightlife scene that continues into the wee hours. Noe Valley comes to life on the weekends when young professionals and families with children crowd the streets. Many of Noe Valley's restaurants offer cheerful outdoor dining options, while its taverns and pubs also offer plenty to do after dark. Noe is known for its boutique food shops, for example, one of the best chocolate shops west of the Mississippi can be found right here, while cheese shops and wine-shops offer specialty selections that will satisfy the connoisseur. With both neighborhoods sitting so close to one another, there is plenty of choice!

The Castro has an underground MUNI station as well as street-cars which will get you to downtown in just minutes. There is also a MUNI bus that travels along Castro Street connecting to Noe Valley and the Castro, and which continues all the way across the city into Pacific Heights and the Marina. Eureka Valley is near the geographical center of the city and thus it is very easy to get around whether on foot, on a bicycle, or by car. The downtown Financial District is an easy commute whether by MUNI or by car. The airport, East Bay and North Bay are all easy to reach, making this location an ideal and convenient place to call home.
